Calling All College Bound Students!!!!
First United Methodist Church will be awarding the JL Scholarship Fund in May. Applicants must turn their applications in to Michele Sorrell or the Church office no later than May 2, 2010.
All applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Applicants must have been active members of the First United Methodist Church for at least two years preceding scholarship application.
2. Applicants must pursue a baccalaureate degree program in math, science, or education, or in related studies such as engineering, computers, or medical technologies/professions.
3. Scholarship conferral is contingent upon reviewing the diploma from an accredited secondary school and letter of acceptance by either a two-year or four-year college.
4. Applicants can only be provided not more than two one-year scholarships unless there are no applicants for said scholarships.
Application is to include:
1. Secondary school transcript of grades earned from grades 9-12 sent directly from the school to the church, or authenticated, cumulative GPA from the college registrar.
2. SAT/ACT scores, if applicable.
3. Listing of extra-curricular/community activities and any honors received.
4. One letter of recommendation submitted by a non-relation who is a member of the church and another letter of recommendation by a recent public school teacher or college professor/instructor who has knowledge of the applicant.
5. A statement from the applicant as to the degree sought, the chosen major field of study, an autobiographical sketch and reason financial support is needed.
