My name
is Nadine Korhonen. I am the Minister of Congregational Care and one of the Associate
Pastors here atFirst
United
Methodist
Church
inCheyenne Wyoming. Being a Pastor is
my second career after having been involved in the real estate field for over 25
years. I am a lifelong Methodist and God has always been an integral part
of my life. When I could not ignore God’s call on me and after a great deal
of prayer, I began working here at the church in November, 1995.
At that time, my role was clerical but
again God had other plans for me. This became apparent as I was called to care for
and nurture the members of our congregation. With the encouragement of Rev.
Janet Forbes and Rev. Blaine Scott, the pastors appointed here at the time, I enrolled
inLicensing
School
at Illiff School of Theology to become a pastor. I was appointed as an associate
pastor here atFirst Church
in April, 2004. My schooling continues every year with summer classes atSt. Paul’sSchool
ofTheology
inKansas City,Missouri..
Since that time, God has shown me more
and more ways to minister to the members of our congregation. As we
are told in the scriptures, we should love our neighbors as ourselves and engaging
the members of the church with volunteer opportunities has expanded the caring ministries
to include many more persons.
My husband of 25 years,Wayne
retired from the public schools after having taught for over 30 years. He
is now employed by the National Football Foundation as an Academic Advisor at one
of the local high schools. Additionally, he continues to teach history classes
at the local community college.
I firmly believe that with the hand of God in
my life, my ministry will continue to grow as God opens more and more ways to serve
his people here atFirst
United
Methodist
Church
,
Cheyenne,Wyoming
. My daily prayer is for discernment; eyes to see the needs of His people
and a heart to fill those needs.
